I am watching Martins video.  I see a Taz machine and a Slot machine.  My question is..

In the Taz the kite does a 360 then proceeds in the opposite direction it entered.
In the Slot machine it continues in the same direction as you entered.

If what I am understanding is correct.  Is the difference the direction one leaves the 360.  Which would mean the rotation is more complete .. I think and hope I understand..

Tom could you ask you son ?  I know he knows...

When flying left to right:

Slot: right hand input for flare, right hand input for flatspin rotation.
Taz: right hand input for flare, left hand input for flatspin rotation.

So the rotation is completely opposite.

Kareloh means: when flying from right to left!

To add, the slot machine is a reversing rotation while the taz is a continuing rotation.

A Slot is a 360 degree rotation
A Taz is a 540 degree rotation.
You can't do a 360 degree rotation and fly away in the opposite direction.

Actually if done right they are both  540 variations.  only difference between a taz, slot and 540 are the entries into the flare position.  Once in the flare they are all a 540 essentially.

This is a slot machine:

Slot Machine Studies

Notice how it is a 360 spin and is not very horizontally flat.  They often look like this where the nose is pointed up 45 degrees or so on the trick entry.

Here is the taz:

taz machine

You get a 360 rotation, plus an additional 1/2 (180) more which gets you firmly to 540.

A Taz is usually flatter than a slot in my experience and is also far more difficult to execute well.

Thanks to mama74 for such fine examples.

360 degrees is one rotation of a circle

The Slot machine starts and end facing you = 360 degrees.

For the 540 and taz the kite is facing away from you. So It is 1 full rotation (360 degress) plus a half rotation (180 degrees) = 540 degrees  Wink

Flew Chilese's vanishing point last night. Got 2 rotations for a 900.
a 540 + a second rotation of 360 = 900.  Cool
John was not willing to sell his vanishing point  Embarrassed

I can pull off 2 rotations during the slot machine with my Amazing. so its 360 + 360 so its a 720.

Who know Geometry was needed in kiting  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

As a final test of your mastery of the subject, challenge yourself to count the total number of:
- slots
- 540s
- taz

in this video and post your counts.
