One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

My old webshots site still has all the photos and text up to a few years ago.

I wonder if that will go away.....

My pics are all still there, including the new stuff. Haven't had time to follow the link to find out what's happening.

John, how did you move all your pics? (a daunting task  Huh )

I didn't move photos from Webshots.

I went through my computer and uploaded them directly to Picasa

in groups of 5 (that use to be the limit on Macs).  Huh

It took several days on and off.

Most of the old text has not been transferred.  Sad

This is my final words on changes from Webshots to Smile. I have almost 6000 photos on Webshots. After the transfer to Smile all the folders and captions are gone. They will not be adding them later. I would consider paying if they moved it properly and complete over to Smile. Now it is just a huge group of photos. Their business plan makes Makes no sense to me. I am really sorry that all the kiting phots archives I created will soon be gone. Ziggy is right on with his favourite saying "SUCKS!!!

I copied & pasted the smile answers I found about folders and captions below

ALL CAPTIONS ARE GONE FOR GOOD
What happened to my photo and video titles and captions?
What’s most important to us is that you can save your personal photos and videos before they’re deleted from our database. The system replaces your original title with the file name your photos and videos have used while being stored on site. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. As long as your photos and videos are stored on Webshots, you can reference the site to copy any additional information you may have recorded there.

ALL ALBUM FOLDERS ARE GONE FOR GOOD
What happened to my albums?
What is most important to us is providing access to your personal photos and videos before they’re deleted from our database. All photos will be bundled into Zip files, however album names and organization have been lost. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. As long as your albums are stored on Webshots, you can reference the site to see where you had photos saved (album names) as well as any additional information you may have recorded there.

Shorter-shorter: "We just don't care."

I wish them all the best in their upcoming job search. Tongue

 Hello,

If you still have all the photos on your computer you can forget all of this
Just say goodbye to the jerks that caused this mess.

I used the link to download all my albums from Webshots. http://community.webshots.com/features/downloads Particularly important for our GLKS photos
because other members uploaded their own pictures. Once you have started
the download you get a message that they are working on it. It may take a
couple hours or more, but eventually you will get an email that will provide
links to start your downloads.

I had trouble with this as the links did not work. I had to click on the
view tab in IE9 and then on source. Look for Href= to find a link that
looks like this http://ws-dload.webshots.com/webshotsImageRetriever/processUserInfo/htm?oauthToken=0bb1d406c9e451ba15e09d482d496850348f841ff6b5304ae0e220a3b95ca5ab501d462a352b371af854087e46e Copy and paste this into your browser

The downloads are rather obscure because no recognizable names are used.
Here is how I have been finding what is what.

First Extract all the files from the downloaded zip file into a new folder.
Second start up Webshots Desktop. Setup file is attached. Click on My
Files Online then log in to your webshots albums. A list of all your albums
shows up with in this program. The reason for doing this that the number of
photos is displayed for each album. Capture this list with alt-prnscreen or
whatever then print it out if you wish. Page down and repeat until you get
the full list.

Third. Open one of the downloaded folders, perhaps with a name something
like this, Photos_1_of_3_514af. Open one of the album folders within,
perhaps with a name like this, 572173359. Your photos will unfortunately
have names like this, 2014232670103663154yeQGMI_fs.JPG. Not much help. Count
the number of photos in this album. Look for this number of photos in the
Webshots desktop list then click on this album. Compare the photos to those
in 572173359. If you have found the right ones, change the name of the
album from 572173359 to My day at Canal Days or whatever.

Fourth. Delete the album from webshots (you have the album on your computer
now) so that searching will get easier as you go.

The albums seem to be grouped roughly in the same order as they were online but not exactly and that is why I have to repeat the third step over and over. A real pain to say the least.

they are changing hands. All the pics will go away if not downloaded.. i just got done saving mine to a disc. I hated it after they changed it and this new site will only be free for a bit so if you want your pics.. you have until 12/1/2012..  they did however make the download process easy.. all my pics were bundled into a zip file with a 1 click download.. I imagine if you have videos posted there will be more files. @John C.. do you have a link to where your pics are now? I still like to browse them on sunday mornings.. with a nice fresh cup of joe
