One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Very nice job of bringing this all together.  I did note one item that I can help with:

<quote>

1997 - Long Beach, Washington (USA)

1 - Airkraft - UK / North Shore Radical - Top Of The Line
2 - Skydance - UK /  North Shore Radical - Top Of The Line
3 - Aftershock (Japan) : Kites ?

<end quote>

We actually won that year and Airkraft changed their kites, so this one should read:

1997 - Long Beach, Washington (USA)

1 - Skydance - UK /  North Shore Radical - Top Of The Line
2 - Airkraft - UK / Matrix - Flexifoil
3 - Aftershock (Japan) : Tracker (or Tracer, not sure) - Spectra Sports

Again great job though and thanks for the memories.

And what do we learn from this ? Don't have the quote and modify buttons next to each other so mods. can mess up posts.  Sad Hopefully all back mostly as it was.

2004 - Berck-sur-mer (France)

3 - Cutting Edge / Precision Kite Company "Next"

You really need to draw the distinction between the World Cup and the WSKC. They really are quite separate entities.

careful is my middle name.

2008 - Berck-sur-mer (France)

1 -  6th Sense - USA  / Kites ?
2 -  Air Rex - Japon / Kites ?
3 -  AirZone - USA / Kites ?

The order I see for 2008 on the AKA site is:

2008 - Berck-sur-mer (France)

1 -  Air Rex - Japn / Skyburner T&T
2 -  O4 - France / Blackbird
3 -  6th Sense - USA  / Nirvana

Unfortunately my local team actually came in 9th  Sad
9 -  AirZone - USA / CR Fury

You could be right Mike because the Tracer and the Tracker are Skynasaur kites and the Twister a Spectra Sport kite.

You are correct sir. 2002 was the first "World Sport Kite Championship" and they have been that ever since, so the 2002-2008 should all be WSKC, not World Cup.

The World Cup ran '90 to '98. The WSKC started in 2002 and continues. Somewhere out there is a man who still owns the rights to the World Cup.

You really need to get The Gomberg in on this  Wink

That would be correct.

WC was organized by American Kite Magazine. The program was sold to Ocean Kites in LB Washington in 1997 and disappeared two years later.

Gerard Clement and I organized the WTC in 2002. We have held it in cooperation with AKA/AJASKA/STACK. WTC has been held in Berck every two years. We have sought alternative sites, but the cost of transporting and lodging teams and staff has been a problem.I have photos and detailed scores in the Weekly Update. See http://www.gombergkites.com/update/447.html for the most recent competition.

Looks like we are on again in 2010.

Didn't happen in the years you are missing.  See Zippy and Dave's comments.
