One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

What a big difference between Blue Ridge Kite Festival and this one. Looking forward to it.
Now deciding what kites are necessary.

Last year, I stayed in a hotel near National Airport (something like $99 a night) and took the Metro into the city as Paul suggested.  I had my full sized RSky bag with me but didn't have any trouble carrying it on the metro train... very few people riding from the Airport to the Smithsonian that early on a Saturday.  Bring a Rok and some gloves for the team rok battle, and have some music handy... as much as I enjoyed flying demos at Blue Ridge last year, this is the event where I really feel like I electrified the entire crowd behind/beside me.  The spectators were in rows five deep by the mid afternoon and the key is keeping the field hopping with things they find interesting!
