FYI

This thread encouraged me to order a new Sun Oak Kite from their new website.

I ordered the 8 foot Seminole: black, red, and yellow.

I wish they had tails or line laundry but maybe that will come later.

So thanks for all the nice pics.

Just wanted to share.   Smiley

About ten to twelve years ago Gomberg used to have exact matches for sun oaks colors, so we had a lot of custom trails and laundry orders to go with the kites we sold..... Those are sadly long gone though

I just heard from Sun Oak and they have 15 foot hand sewn 'bow' tails to match for $15.

Though I don't exactly know what a 'bow' tail is--maybe those old fashioned tails you often see depicted on diamond kites in pictures.  Could be cute.  We'll see....

Fly on!

Yes, I spoke with Jim Keown and he looked in the barn and said he found me a matching bow tail.

We had a nice talk about getting back into the kite making business--they want to make kites for those who are going to fly and enjoy them, not so much for the retail distributors, etc. He said they didn't re-open The Trading Post.

We talked about collecting SunOak Kites and he said that there was just an auction where someone bought a lot of 20 Sun Oaks.  This was in California.  Darn, I would have liked to have been there.  I did just get notice of an auction in Tennessee where they sold a lot of four or five SOKs for like $15 or so.

I wondered if those buyers frequent GWTW....?!

chutzpah defined.  Delete his link in one post.  Then ask him to make a custom kite in the next.   Cheesy Cheesy

I am so glad you like our kites! We almost stopped making them to go on to other things. Then we started getting ideas for new designs. check out sunoakkites
Look back often for new limited edition kites. Hope you enjoy!  Richard

(welcome back Richard, sorry, but we do not allow links to non-sponsor kite shops in the forum - thief)
