One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I like running these polls... just to get opinions.  I'm pretty set on a color scheme already, but curious to see if the forum agrees with my choice.  Here they are:

Color 1

Color 2

Color 3

Color 4

Color 5

Color 6

Color 7

Color 8

Color 9

Color 10

and of course, feel free to come up with your own suggestion as a write in... here's a link to the colorizer I've been using (created by Ara Ararauna)

Whatever you make, if you don't like it, I want to be first in line for dibs!  Smiley

Really like Color #8 if the gray areas are Mylar!  But I think #6 or #9, as they are, look best to me.  Here's what I was thinking of when doing my Quartz over.

#7 all the way!

But this is like really a nightmare to me.
You wouldn't want to know how many combinations I tried for mine!
I was really going nuts...

And in the end, out of the two final I was deciding on, I discarded the one that I would now take...  Sad
This is a very unhealthy exercise!
 Wink

The one I would take now for mine is this:

I must admit that I am surprised by the current status.  And, like Ara, keep second guessing my own favorite.  Guess I'll have to build two kites!

I say #1. seems like 7,8,9 is about the closest to sky colors and would get lost up there.

Is it just my PC, or does the colourizer HOG the resources in your browser, bringing it to a grinding crawl  Huh

Yes, the colorizer makes things slow.  It will run faster if you turn off the "3D effect". If you have a painting program... a simple is fine... you can use this simple colorizer I made.  I made this templet from a photo of the actual kite in order to see the exact panel perspective of a completed kite.  It varies just slightly from Ara's colorizer.  Here it is.

Oops! Sorry.
It does demand quite a bit on computers since it uses a lot of translucency for having this integration effect with the background and then the 3D effect of the sail creating shadow areas.
But isn't it great!  Cool      Roll Eyes

You must use it in a computer with quite a bit of RAM and a good graphic card.
Cheers.

well, I've cut out panels for two Le Quartz.  Color scheme 9 and my personal favorite, number 6.  As I layed out the panels, I discovered something most distressing... one of my panel templates does not have an overlap area at one of the seams.  I'll post pictures when the kite is done to show how I compensated (it won't be difficult to figure out, but my hope is that the error will be un-noticable).  I was surprised to find the error, as all the other templates/panels are correct.  I thought about cutting a new template and recutting the panels, but this would have been a giant waste of PC31... so I'll have to be creative in my creation (especially to not alter the geometry/area of the sail).  Anyway, I'll probably start sewing one of the sails today.

One kite will be a re-use of my original frame and bridle. (from the very first kite I built.  I threw out the sail due to the deformation of cheap materials).  The second kite is going to be an experimental frame.  3pt ULE, 5PT LLE, 5mm US and 5pt LS with Prospar spine.  We'll see how it goes!

One thing I just discovered and really like about this sail pattern is that you can sew an entire half with only two stitches... 4 tie points.  Here is how:

Sorry I was too late to help with the color scheme suggestion before you decided but before I read your pics I was also gonna suggest #9 for it's distinctive looks!

I also like both of Lou's color combos with the mylar panels!

I have some kites that need attention but I couldn't resist  playing around a little with the colorizer!  Shocked

Here's a few color schemes I came up that might look good for an UL or an SUL:

I like me some purple kites!  Grin
